Unit Price Comparator

Is the big pack really cheaper? Enter the price and size of each option and find the best value per kg, litre or item.

Comparing prices properly

Pack sizes make it hard to see the real price: 400 g at £1.20 and 1.5 kg at £3.60 are not easy to compare in your head. This tool converts every option to the same unit — for example the price per kilogram — and marks the cheapest. Enter the price of one pack, the size printed on it and, for multipacks, how many items are in it (a 6 × 330 ml multipack is 330 ml with 6 items). Different units can be mixed as long as they measure the same kind of thing, such as ounces and grams, or pints and litres.

Cheapest per unit is not always best value: a large pack is only a saving if you will use it all before it spoils, and you should also compare quality and any offers. UK pints (568 ml) and fluid ounces (28.4 ml) differ from US ones (473 ml and 29.6 ml); both are listed separately. In the UK, shops must show unit prices (usually per kg, per litre or per item) on most packaged goods, so you can use those to check your figures.
