Sizes are only a guide. Every brand cuts its clothes differently, and shops in the same country often disagree. Use these as a starting point, then check the size chart and returns policy on the retailer’s own page, and measure yourself if in doubt.
How the systems relate
For women’s clothing, UK sizes run two higher than US (UK 12 is US 8) and EU sizes are UK plus 28 (UK 12 is EU 40). Men’s UK and US sizes are the chest measurement in inches, and the EU size is that plus 10 (UK 40 = EU 50); trouser sizes are waist inches in the UK and UK plus 16 in the EU. Children’s EU sizes are the child’s height in centimetres.
The body measurements shown are typical, rounded figures for orientation. Athletic, petite and plus-size ranges, and vanity sizing, mean the same number can fit differently. For shoes use the shoe size converter.
