How keyword density is calculated
Density is the number of times a word or phrase appears divided by the total number of words in the text, as a percentage. For phrases of two or three words, the percentage is the share of all possible phrases of that length. Common “stop words” such as the, and or of are left out of the list (but still counted in the total), because they say nothing about the topic. There is no magic “ideal” density: search engines look at meaning, not percentages, and repeating a phrase unnaturally can hurt readability. Use this tool to spot accidental over-use of a word, to confirm that your main topic actually appears, and to see what your text is really about. Everything runs in your browser; your text is not uploaded.
