Sitemap Validator
Check that a sitemap.xml follows the sitemaps.org rules — before search engines find the mistakes for you.
…or paste the XML instead (validated in your browser, nothing is sent)
What is checked
The tool follows the sitemaps.org protocol: the XML must be well-formed; the root must be <urlset> (or <sitemapindex>) in the http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9 namespace; every <url> needs a <loc> with a full http(s) address of at most 2,048 characters; <lastmod> must be a W3C date (2026-03-15 or 2026-03-15T10:30:00+00:00); <changefreq> must be one of always, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, never; <priority> must be between 0.0 and 1.0. A sitemap may hold at most 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed. It also flags duplicate URLs, URLs on a different host than the others, mixed http/https, and characters that should be URL-encoded. Compressed .xml.gz sitemaps are unpacked automatically. Fetching is done from our server and is limited to public web addresses on ports 80/443, up to 12 MB.
