Audio Fade In & Fade Out
Smooth the start and end of a track with a fade in and a fade out. Pick the lengths and the curve, see the shape, listen, and save.
Fades and curves
A fade in raises the volume from silence at the start; a fade out lowers it to silence at the end. Fades hide abrupt starts and stops and remove clicks where a clip was cut. A linear fade changes the volume at a steady rate; the smooth S-curve eases in and out; fast start rises quickly then levels off (it sounds even because our ears judge loudness on a curve); slow start stays quiet for longer before rising. The picture under the waveform shows the volume shape that will be applied.
The two fades together cannot be longer than the recording; if they overlap, the tool asks you to shorten them. Use the MP3 cutter to trim the clip first, change the volume to balance it, or join clips with fades between them.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a fade be?
Two to five seconds suits most songs and videos; a fraction of a second is enough to remove a click.
Can I fade only the start or only the end?
Yes. Set the other fade to 0.
