How a round robin works

In a round robin every team plays every other team once (or twice in a double round robin, home and away). With n teams that is n×(n−1)/2 matches in a single round robin. This generator uses the classic “circle method”: one team stays fixed while the others rotate around it, which guarantees that in each round every team plays exactly once. If you have an odd number of teams, one team sits out each round (a bye) and every team gets exactly one bye.

Home and away is alternated as evenly as possible, so no team is at home (or away) for long stretches: for an even number of teams the home and away counts differ by at most one; with an odd number they differ by at most two. In a double round robin the second half repeats the first with home and away swapped. For knockout formats see the Tournament Bracket Generator. Everything is calculated in your browser.
