Rotate & Resize Video
Turn a sideways or upside-down video the right way up, flip it, and shrink it to a smaller size. Everything happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
How it works
If a video plays sideways or upside down, its picture is stored upright with a small "please rotate me" instruction from the camera; the browser preview above already turns it the right way up. Choosing a rotation here is on top of that: it re-encodes the video so it plays the right way up (or however you choose) on every device, including ones that ignore the instruction.
The size presets never enlarge a video, only shrink it, and are applied after rotation — so a 720p preset on a video you rotate 90° gives a picture 720 pixels tall in its new, rotated orientation. Choosing a custom width or height keeps the original proportions; widths and heights are rounded to an even number of pixels, which video encoders need.
How long does it take?
This always re-encodes the video (rotating and flipping cannot be done as a simple copy), at the same speed as the Video Converter: roughly half of real time for 720p and a quarter for 1080p. The page shows an estimate before you start.
Frequently asked questions
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is read from your disk and processed in your browser; only the ffmpeg conversion engine itself (about 31 MB) is downloaded, once.
Can I rotate an HEVC or HDR iPhone video?
Yes. HDR is converted to standard dynamic range with tone mapping as part of the re-encode, so colours and brightness can change a little.
