.gitignore Generator

Choose what you are working with and get a clean, combined .gitignore file — ready to copy or download.

How to use it

Tick everything that applies to your project — for example Node, macOS and VS Code — and the templates are merged into one file, in a sensible order, with duplicate lines removed. Save it as .gitignore in the root of your repository. Files that are already tracked by Git stay tracked; to stop tracking them run git rm --cached <file> first. The templates follow the conventions of the community-maintained collection at github.com/github/gitignore (released under CC0 1.0), condensed to the entries most projects need — review the result and adjust it to your project, for instance if you do want to commit lock files, build output or a particular editor setting. Everything is generated in your browser.
