MIME Type Lookup

Search by file extension (like webp), by MIME type (like application/json) or by name, and copy the right Content-Type.

What is a MIME type?

A MIME type (or media type) tells a browser or program what kind of data a file contains, written as type/subtype — for example image/png or text/html. Web servers send it in the Content-Type header, and it matters more than the file extension: if it is wrong, a browser may download a file instead of showing it, or refuse to run a script. For text types add a charset, such as Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8.

Click any row to copy its MIME type. A few extensions are ambiguous (.ts is both TypeScript and MPEG transport video) and some types have older aliases still in use, which are shown in the notes. When in doubt, check the current IANA media types registry.
