PDF to Text Extractor

Pull the text out of a PDF and copy it or save it as a plain text file. It works on PDFs made from documents; scanned pages need OCR.

Your PDF never leaves your computer. The text is read inside your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.

When this works — and when it does not

PDFs made from Word, web pages or design tools contain real text, which this tool reads and puts back into reading order. Line breaks are rebuilt from the positions of the words, so multi-column pages and tables can come out in a different order than you expect — check the result before relying on it.

A scanned PDF is just pictures of pages, so there is no text to extract; if you get an empty result, use the PDF OCR tool instead. To get pictures out of a PDF use Extract Images from PDF.
