How cropping works
A PDF page has a media box (the paper size) and can also have a crop box (the part that viewers show). This tool sets the crop box — and, by default, the media box too, so the page really becomes smaller when printed or opened in other software. The content outside the box is hidden, not deleted: it may still be in the file, so do not rely on cropping to hide confidential information (redact instead).
If pages differ in size, the crop is applied as proportions of each page. Rotated pages are handled so that the crop matches what you see in the preview. To merge, split or reorder pages afterwards, see our other PDF tools.
