Brick Calculator
Enter the size of your wall and get the number of bricks (with waste), packs and the mortar you will need. Standard UK brick sizes are built in.
How the estimate works
Each brick plus its mortar joint takes up (length + joint) × (height + joint). With the standard UK brick (215 × 65 mm) and a 10 mm joint that is about 59 bricks per square metre for a single-skin wall, and about 118 for a double skin. The calculator multiplies this by the wall area after taking off the openings, then adds your waste allowance for cuts and breakages (5–10% is usual).
The mortar figure is the volume of the wall minus the volume of the bricks, so it covers bed and perpend joints. It is an estimate: order a little extra, keep the same batch of bricks for the whole job (colours vary between batches) and check the pack size with your supplier. For structural walls, always follow your builder's or engineer's advice and the current Building Regulations.
