About this converter

A Braille cell has six dots in two columns of three, numbered 1–3 down the left and 4–6 down the right. This tool writes each cell as a Unicode Braille character (U+2800 to U+283F), so the result can be pasted into documents, websites and Braille-aware software. Capital letters are marked with dot 6 (⠠), a fully capitalised word with two of them, and numbers with the number sign ⠼ followed by the letters a–j.

Limits: this is Grade 1, the letter-by-letter form of Unified English Braille (UEB) used in the UK. Most Braille books and signs use Grade 2 contractions (for example “the” is one cell), which are not applied here, and there is no Braille maths or music. Do not use it for signage or documents where the exact Braille matters — check with a qualified transcriber or organisations such as RNIB.
