Install & Configure WordPress
A fresh, properly configured WordPress install, ready for you (or your designer/developer) to start building on.
The Problem
A one-click WordPress installer gets you a login page, but not sensible permalinks, secure file permissions, a proper SMTP connection, or any of the basic settings that save you headaches later.
About this problem
A one-click installer creates a working WordPress, but it usually leaves defaults that cause trouble later: plain permalinks, a database user with more rights than it needs, loose file permissions, no outgoing mail configuration and no backup. None of these is visible on day one, which is why they tend to be skipped.
People usually ask for this when a designer or developer is about to start building and they want a clean, predictable base, or when a previous install was rushed and they would rather start properly than patch it later.
What's Included
- Fresh WordPress install with secure database credentials and file permissions
- Sensible permalink structure and core settings configured
- SMTP connection so WordPress can actually send email
- Basic security settings and a starter backup in place
What's NOT Included
- Theme or plugin selection/installation beyond the WordPress defaults
- Content entry or design work
- Domain/hosting setup (assumes hosting already exists)
How It Works
- I create a dedicated database and database user with only the privileges WordPress needs, and install the current WordPress release with a non-default table prefix.
- I set file and folder ownership and permissions to the recommended values and protect wp-config.php from direct access.
- I configure permalinks, timezone, language, discussion and reading settings, and remove the sample post, page and unused default content.
- I connect WordPress to your SMTP account and send test messages (such as a password reset) to confirm they arrive.
- I apply the basic hardening settings, including disabling file editing from the dashboard, and set up a starter backup of files and database.
- I log in as a fresh admin, check the site health screen and confirm there are no PHP notices or warnings on the front end.
In practice: you buy the service, send over whatever access or details the job needs, I investigate and do the work, and you confirm it's resolved before we call it done.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does a properly configured WordPress install include?
- Secure database credentials, sensible file permissions, a clean permalink structure, working outgoing email, basic hardening and a first backup. Each item is listed in what is included.
- Can you install WordPress if I already have hosting?
- Yes, this service assumes hosting and a domain already exist. I need access to the hosting panel or server to do the installation.
- Will you install a theme and plugins too?
- No, only the WordPress defaults are covered. Theme and plugin selection and installation beyond that is not part of this service.
- Do I need an SMTP account before you start?
- It helps to have SMTP details ready, such as a mailbox or a transactional email account. If you do not have one, setting up a new mailbox or email service is a separate job.
- Do you build or design the website pages?
- No. Content entry and design work are not included, as the aim is a clean base for you or your designer to build on.
- Can you set up the domain and DNS as well?
- Not as part of this service. Domain and hosting setup are excluded, and separate DNS and hosting services exist if you need them.
- Is a WordPress install from a hosting installer not good enough?
- It works, but it usually leaves defaults unchanged, such as permalinks, mail delivery and permissions. This service takes care of those settings once, so you do not have to find them later.
