Domain Pointing & DNS Propagation Check
Make sure your domain is pointed correctly and check real-world DNS propagation.
The Problem
You've changed nameservers or DNS records and don't know if it's actually propagated everywhere yet, or whether something was configured wrong from the start.
About this problem
DNS changes do not apply everywhere at once because resolvers cache answers for the duration of each record's TTL, and nameserver changes are cached at the registry level too. So at any moment different parts of the world can return different answers, which is normal and temporary. A true misconfiguration, such as a wrong record value or stale nameservers, does not clear up by waiting.
People usually look for this just after changing nameservers or an A record, when the site still seems to show the old content or does not load. They need to know whether to wait or to fix something, and that is hard to tell from a single browser or computer.
What's Included
- Checking current DNS configuration against what it should be
- Testing resolution from multiple global locations
- Identifying whether delay is normal propagation or an actual misconfiguration
- A clear answer on what's happening and, if needed, what to fix
What's NOT Included
- Fixing issues found (quoted separately if it's more than a quick correction)
- Domain registrar account access issues
- Expediting propagation — that's governed by TTL and provider caching, not something anyone can force
How It Works
- I query the registry for the delegated nameservers and compare them with the nameservers you intend to use.
- I query each authoritative nameserver directly to see what the zone actually serves.
- I compare those answers with the records that should be in place for the hostnames you care about.
- I query several public resolvers in different networks to see which ones still return old data.
- I check TTL values to estimate how long cached answers can persist.
- I conclude whether the delay is normal propagation or a configuration error, and explain what to correct if needed.
In practice: you buy the service, send over whatever access or details the job needs, I investigate and do the work, and you confirm it's resolved before we call it done.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How long does DNS propagation take?
- It varies from minutes to around a day, depending on the TTL of the old records and how resolvers cache them.
- Why does my site show correctly for me but not for others?
- Different resolvers cache old answers for different lengths of time. I check several to see where the old data persists.
- Can you speed up propagation?
- No. It is governed by TTL and resolver caching, and nobody can force it.
- How do I know it is not a misconfiguration?
- If the authoritative nameservers return the correct answer and only some resolvers lag behind, it is propagation. If the authoritative answer is wrong, it is a configuration problem.
- Will you fix whatever you find?
- This service gives a clear answer on what is happening. Fixes are quoted separately unless they are a quick correction.
- What if I cannot log in to my registrar?
- Registrar account access problems are not covered, though I can tell you what needs changing there.
